Affidavit of Candidacy Notice:
The following four-year term seats for Cloquet Mayor and City Council will be on the November 3, 2026 general election ballot:
- Mayor
- Ward 1 Councilor Member
- Ward 2 Councilor Member
- Ward 3 Councilor Member
Filing Period
The filing period of the above seats is Tuesday, May 19th through Tuesday, June 2nd. Affidavits of candidacy will be accepted by the City Clerk at Cloquet City Hall, 101 14th Street, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. City Hall will remain open until 5:00 on the last day of filing.
Candidate Requirements
- Candidate must be an eligible voter.
- Candidate is, or will be will be on assuming the office, 21 years of age or older.
- Maintained residence in the district from which the candidate seeks election for 30 days before the general election. Please visit the poll finder to determine what ward you reside in.
- Show proof of residence
Filing Documents
- The City Council Filing Packet contains the forms that are required to be filed with the City Clerk when filing for office. A $5 fee will be collected when filing.
- The State of Minnesota Campaign Manual contains information about campaign financial reporting and fair campaign practices.
Campaign Finance Reports
- City Council candidates must complete Campaign Financial Reporting Forms included in your filing packet.
- The initial report is due within 14 days after receiving contributions or making disbursements of more than $750.
- Subsequent reports are due 10 days before and 30 days after the general election.
- A final report is due when all assets are settled and all assets are disposed of in excess of $100.
