Our Recommendation - Stay Home and Vote by Mail

To Minimize direct contact with others due to COVID-19, all Minnesota voters are encouraged to vote early by mail (absentee) for the 2020 Elections.  It's easy to vote by mail, as long as you plan ahead for it.  Absentee voting begins 46 days prior to the Primary and General Elections.  You may also vote absentee in person during the 46 days at the Carlton County Courthouse, second floor, Auditor's Office.  Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.  They are also open extended hours the Saturday before the Primary and General Elections from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and the Monday before the Primary and General Elections 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Apply Online to Receive a Ballot in the Mail

To vote by mail, you must apply to have an absentee ballot mailed to you.  Complete the online absentee ballot application for one or both of the 2020 elections - August 11th State Primary and the November 3rd General Election.  When ballots are available (46 days prior to each election), the ballots will be mailed to you with a postage-paid envelope for return.

Application deadline:  It is recommended you apply for a ballot at least 10 days before Election Day.  This gives you the best chance to get your ballot in the mail and still have time to mail it back or drop it off.  You can apply after this date, but each day increases the chances you will not be able to receive and return your ballot by Election Day.

You may also request, receive and cast an absentee ballot in one visit to the Carlton County Auditor's Office or download the application.

Return applications by mail, fax or email to the Carlton County Auditor at:

Auditor's Office
PO Box 130
Carlton MN 55718-0130
Fax: 218-384-9116
Email: Kathy.Kortuem@co.carlton.mn.us

If you have any questions on how to vote absentee, please contact the Carlton County Auditor's Office at (218) 384-9127.
